Blooming Beginnings: How I Became a Wedding & Events Florist
Have you ever stumbled upon something that completely captures your heart and ignites a passion you didn’t know you had? That’s exactly how I felt when I discovered the world of floral design. What started as a simple curiosity blossomed into a journey that has brought beauty and creativity into my life in ways I never imagined.
In 2022, I took my first steps into the world of floristry. It all began with a floral workshop that I attended just for fun. It was an hour filled with creativity, learning, and pure joy. The best part was taking home a beautiful arrangement that left me feeling happy and accomplished all week—until the flowers eventually faded. Reflecting on how that experience made me feel, I realized I wanted to chase that sense of joy and fulfillment every day.
Soon, I was watching YouTube videos about flower design, reading everything I could find, and experimenting with flowers in my own home. Before I knew it, I was hooked. I wanted to turn this newfound passion into a career. Without any formal training, I immersed myself in learning everything about floral design. From countless tutorials to hands-on practice, I slowly built my confidence and skills. The process wasn’t always easy, but it was incredibly rewarding. Every design I created seemed to teach me something new, and I fell more in love with the craft each day.
As I took more workshops & honed my style, I found myself drawn to bespoke garden-style florals. There’s something precious about arrangements that feel effortless yet intentional, as if they were plucked straight from a garden. This approach allows me to create pieces that feel alive, romantic, and uniquely tailored to each client & will still be relevant in 20 to 30 years. It’s a joy to see how these designs bring a touch of natural beauty to life’s most special moments.
Of course, starting out as a self-taught florist came with its challenges. There were moments of doubt, endless trial and error, and a steep learning curve. But every challenge was an opportunity to grow—not just as a florist, but as a creative and a business owner. Looking back, I’m grateful for those early struggles because they’ve made me more resilient and resourceful and those qualities will be needed even more as I continue to grow in this industry.
Now, I’m at the beginning of what I hope will be a long and fulfilling journey. Every wedding, event, and bouquet is a chance to learn, connect, and create something meaningful. The thought of what lies ahead fills me with excitement—new techniques to master, larger installations to dream up, and countless moments to celebrate with flowers.
